How To Lose Weight By Eating For Energy

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

By Nancy Hill Are you bewildered when intuitive eating guides tell you to eat when youre hungry and stop when youre full? It can be a difficult skill to relearn after years of dieting and/or bingeing. One entirely different way to eat the right amount for your body is to change the goal from “getting full of food” to “eating for energy”. Food is fuel, but that sounds so sterile. A more exciting and empowering approach is to eat feel great. Eat until you feel light and full of energy. When you use this method, you don’t even have to think about the amount of food in your stomach. When you sit down to eat; ask your body to let you know when it has had enough. Pay close attention with each bite. You will get a subtle, but clear, message to stop when your body has had enough. You may even think you’re making it up. The message will often come after just a small amount of food. When you experiment by following your full signal and stop eating at that point, you will find yourself feeling light and energized. You may not even feel a difference in your stomach at all. Make it a practice to give your body just what it needsnot too muchnot too little. As you eat, ask yourself if you need more energy * Will you feel better, lighter, more energized if you eat this bite? * Will you feel comfortable and satisfied? * Or will you feel heavy, tired, too full? The body has amazing powers of self-regulation and will communicate its needs to you if you will listen. At first it may feel strange to eat this way. Over time though, you will find that * Your energy levels are soaring. * You are not getting sleepy after you eat. * You feel less fuzzy. * You feel more replenished by food. * Fresh, unprocessed foods become more and more appealing to you and make you feel better. * You are more creative. * You feel happier and more at peace with yourself. * Extra pounds have dropped away easily and effortlessly. In the beginning it may seem like paying so much attention to your hunger and energy takes a lot of time and attention. Just remember that the skills you’re learning will set you free from obesity and diet craziness for the rest of your life. Animal Domination vs I Utterly Know That’s Wrong - I Read a Bible Story as a Child and am Stunned

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

By Elsa Schieder Am I aware that the Old Testament says god gave us dominion over the animals? Yes. Are you aware that the same god found it fine to drown billions of animals because he was upset with people? The story: Noah and the flood. That god didn’t like how people were behaving - except for eight humans on the whole planet - so he considered it fine to drown all the others, including infants, along with every land animal and bird, except for the very few there was space for on one ark. Do I disapprove of such lack of consideration for animals and also humans too young to have done anything wrong? Yes. But that’s not the story that stopped me cold when i was seven. It was the story of a brother who killed animals and burned them for god. I was stunned. But that was not what shocked me the most. More about the Old Testament god. Some well-meaning friends of my parents gave me a child’s version of the Bible, and many of the stories astounded me. I read about creation. So that’s how we got here, I thought. I had never wondered, but this answered the question in a very reasonable way for my seven-year-old mind. God made us out of earth. Then the first two people were bad, and god punished them. That also made sense to me. My sister and I were always doing things that were bad, and getting scoldings. Then the people had children who fought - just like my sister and I did. Part of the story, though, did not make sense to me. One of the brothers burned some vegetables for god. The other brother killed animals and burned them for god. It didn’t make sense that someone would kill animals just like that, just to burn them. What happened next made even less sense to me. The god was mad at the brother who did not kill animals. He liked the brother who killed the animals. I read that over and over, stunned. I was sure that I was not reading the words right. After all, I had a hard time with lots of words. But no matter how many times I went over the passage, god always liked the brother who killed the animals. I could understand what happened next. The other brother, the one god didn’t like, got mad at his brother and killed him. This was worse than anything my sister and I got up to, but I could understand it. I would be totally pissed off if someone who killed an animal got praised for it. After that the god got mad and punished the brother who was left. Again, not hard to grasp. His favorite had been killed, after all. I could not take it in, though, that the god liked it better if someone killed animals. **** I never quite forgot that initial shock at reading the story of Cain and Abel. I stopped thinking about it, but it stayed lodged deep inside me. My initial shock told me: this is wrong, all wrong. Over the years I learned that the stories I had accepted without questioning - on creation, for instance - were in fact not accurate representations of how people came into existence. I remember being stunned when I found out about evolution in grade three. The idea of evolution boggled my mind. Horses had once been the size of cats? That was nuts. No, it wasn’t nuts, I learned. It was science. Wow. Likewise, I learned that, though the story of Adam and Eve made sense to me - people disobeying and getting into trouble - again there was no historical backing for it. **** But what felt wrong to me on first reading - animal sacrifice - continued to feel wrong. And maybe the foundation for my holding ethics above any religion comes from my utter conviction that it was wrong what that god did, saying it was good to kill animals just to burn them. I still hold that conviction as an adult. **** I also hold that we sometimes deeply viscerally feel when something is right or wrong. It doesn’t matter what the outside voices say, or what we are taught, whether from family, religion or society. Chinua Achebe, in Things Fall Apart, captures this inner experience of knowing something is wrong. Nwoye comes from a tribe where newborn twins are put in earthenware jars and thrown into the evil forest. One day, coming home from harvesting yams, he hears crying coming from the forest - and something just breaks inside him. No one has told him anything was wrong with what is done to twins. Yet inside him something breaks. Lillian Smith, in Killers of the Dream, describes something similar. As a young white girl in the south of the United States in the early part of the twentieth century, she stood at the edge of a crowd, listening to a white politician haranguing about black evil, black inferiority. Most of the people listening were white, but among them were black millhands and the town’s black doctor (he only treated black people, of course). Inside her, listening to the rant, came tearing voices. “What is wrong, what is wrong? How can he be talking like that. Can’t he see they’re human, just like us?” Then other voices came, arguing against the first. “But then why are they not with us, in our schools, in our churches?” Her book is aptly called Killers of the Dream - she felt racism kill the dream of equality inside herself. Actually, the dream isn’t what I see being killed. I see that either we listen to what we hear from deep inside ourselves - or part of our ability to see, to experience, and to respond to reality gets squashed. My inner voice wasn’t silenced. But there seemed no space for it in the world around me. Everything was just too puzzling. As for talking to a grownup, I had learned that they had a hard time listening. My father was likely to give me a long speech on something or other. **** And with that I’m back where I started. Something inside me broke when I read about the god prefering burned killed animals over vegetables. Maybe it happened because we had a dog, and I loved that dog. Maybe it would have happened anyway. I believe the breaking came from a deep down in-born sense of connection to animals. **** What was it that broke? Acceptance of the story I was reading. Belief that the story could be telling something true. The god I was reading about could scare me. He kept punishing people. But he could not be my kind of god. So one of the things that broke was the potential for a deep connection to a religion linked to the Old Testament (Christianity, Judaism, Islam) or any similar religion. They went against my built-in moral sense. **** I didn’t know exactly what I was going to write about when I started. I knew it had to do with the story I read about Abel and Cain in childhood. More, as I found out as i wrote, it had to do with one place where our moral sense, our sense of right and wrong comes from - deep inside ourselves, in our connection to others, human and animal and more. **** For another true story about animals, click here: Whose Dog Is It Anyway - On Pets, Ownership, SlaveryThe spark for the story: The dog next door wants to move in. He’s been hungry. He’s often cold. He’s left alone for days in the barn. We have two dogs, nine cats (we live in the country) - and a warm house where our pets are welcome. We’d like to give him a home. But he belongs to the farm next door. The question is: who should have the right to decide where the dog lives? The dog or the owners? **** Then, a couple of years I have moved to write a preteen novel. It’s about a thirteen-year-old girl and … an invisible ghost dog that may or may not be there. Cell Phone Wet? Find Out How You Can Save It

Monday, August 27th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Asaf_Atiya]Asaf Atiya It can happen to anyone: You walk into the pool or sea with the cell phone in your pocket, wash it with your clothes, or just drop it into the sink or bathroom… But it doesn’t have to be the end of your mobile buddy. Follow these steps as quickly as possible, and you might be using it to tell your friends about the whole thing in a few days. Here’s what to do: Turn the phone off. Remove the Battery and SIM card. The quicker you do this, the better. Even if the phone isn’t salvaged, your SIM card might survive. As for the battery, it’s less likely to keep working. If the phone was in salty sea water, carefully rinse it with fresh water before drying.Dry it. First, use a towel to dry the phone. Then use toilet paper and an ear pick to reach the places a towel can’t. Let it Rest. If the inner circuits of the phone are wet, it can cause more harm to turn it on before they’re dry. Follow these drying guidelines: Let the phone dry for at least 3 days.Keep it uncovered in a warm, dry place.Don’t try drying it in the sun, the oven, the microwave or with any appliance that can possibly melt it.Try using any absorbing substance that will not harm the phone, such as Rice, Ungrounded salt or Silica packs that come with Vitamin packs, Clothes and Electronics. If the screen is still foggy after 3 days, wait a few days more. Try turning it on. If it seems dry and ready, re-attach the battery and SIM card and turn it on. If it doesn’t work, you can either attempt to dry it more or take it to the manufacturer. Note that it’s possible for them to know if the phone has been dropped in water due to special stickers that respond to water. Warranties, unlike insurance, don’t cover water damage. Even if it still doesn’t work, it might be possible to rescue important information that’s not on the SIM. Consult a technical representative from your company about your possibilities. Identity Theft - Who Is Using Your Credit Card?

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

By Joseph Kenny Sometimes you get a shock when you open your credit card statement, and it’s not just because of the phenomenal amount you spent on clothes last month. Occasionally there may be transactions on your credit card statement that don’t look familiar. Sometimes this is a simple banking error, but it’s worth paying attention, because you may be a victim of identity theft. What Is Identity Theft? Identity theft is the theft of personal information that can be used to identify individuals. It is closely related to identity fraud, which is the use of that information to obtain goods and services by deception. Identity fraud may also mean using that information to create a false identity. Signs Of Identity Theft Aside from the appearance of unrecognized transactions on your credit card or bank statements, other signs of identity theft are: - Getting bills, invoices or receipts for goods or services you haven’t ordered - Getting turned down for a credit card or loan in spite of having a good credit rating - Finding that a mobile phone contract has been set up in your name without your knowledge - Receiving letters from solicitors or debt collectors for debts that you know nothing about - Your post goes missing - Someone seems to be messing with your rubbish bags How Does Identity Theft Happen? There are many ways in which identity fraudsters can get hold of your personal information. In some cases, this may be through theft of your wallet or purse, burglary of your home, or pilfering from your letterbox. Identity fraudsters look for personal information such as your name, address, date of birth and so on. These can help them to set up new identities and even fraudulent businesses. Other ways of stealing your identity include: - Diverting your post through a change of address form - Hacking into your computer to get hold of private information - Monitoring ATM transactions or using special machines to get your PIN number Fraudsters who get hold of your personal information will find it easy to open bank accounts, get credit card, loans, passports, driving licences and benefits in your name. They are unlikely to be strict about making payments on time, so it is your credit rating that will be affected. How To Protect Against Identity Theft There are many ways to make it more difficult for identity fraudsters to get hold of your personal information. First of all, get a copy of your personal credit file from time to time. This is inexpensive and you will be able to see if anyone has applied for credit in your name. Let banks and credit card companies know when you move house and get your mail redirected. This will make it more difficult for someone to steal your letters and identity. At the same time, it’s worth checking that no-one is redirecting your mail without your consent. Keep personal documents in a locked filing cabinet, safe or drawer or in a bank safety deposit box. Receipts should be shredded immediately if you dont want them. Throwing them away makes it easy for fraudsters to get credit card numbers. If personal documents (passports, driving licences, credit cards, debit cards and so on) are lost or stolen report the loss immediately. Finally, keep your PIN and your passwords secure. The fewer people who know about them, the less likely they are to get into the wrong hands. Finding Jobs In An Employer’s Market

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

By John Dir In times of high unemployment and fewer job opportunities, there are some curious trends that develop. As job seekers flood into competition for fewer jobs, some employers seem to develop an attitude that prospective employees must be the cream of the crop with very little interest in wasting time on interviewing less qualified candidates. For those who continue to work, an employers market seems to add more stress, require higher standards of performance from the work force, and demonstrate less appreciation for existing talent. Though these perceptions may truly apply in some cases, when industries tighten their belts to weather the storm of decreased profits, staffing cut backs, and fewer employees, the focus of many companies turns from growth to survival. Communication and appreciation tends to be reduced during these times. During times of higher unemployment, those companies that think in terms of becoming more selective about who they hire due to the sudden increase in availability of more qualified candidates soon discover a real problem with adopting this perspective. Even though it is true that more qualified candidates are seeking new jobs, putting these people in touch with potential hiring companies is also much more difficult. Many firms that post job openings receive such an overwhelming response to their postings, it becomes a daunting task to sort through the resumes that come flooding in, to find the qualified candidates they wish to interview. This problem may also occur in times of lower unemployment, but in hard times, the situation can send companies looking for alternative ways to stem the tide, and clear their vision for a practical approach to finding the talent they seek. The situation results in more companies taking the search for appropriate candidates into the realm of the hidden job market. Availability of hidden jobs tends to swell to greater numbers than when fewer people are looking for work. The impact of networking with previous co-workers, friends, family, or other acquaintances is also reduced as companies become more reluctant to announce available openings, and employees become less likely to recommend coming to work for a company that does not seem to appreciate their people. For those who may have been able to network with potential companies by interviewing key personnel about a particular need or area of expertise, the doors to establishing these types of contacts are slammed shut. Finding a job in an employers market can be one of the most difficult challenges anyone will ever have to face. Being successful in seeking opportunity requires several key changes in perspective. There are some important things to remember when finding a job becomes increasingly difficult: 1. Regardless of how many people are competing in looking for work, the individual job seeker only has to be concerned with finding one suitable place to hire them. It is very easy to become discouraged when you realize that nearly everyone you know seems to be looking for a job. Your task is not to find a job for everyone else in the world; it is only important that you locate one reasonable opportunity for yourself. 2. Maintain a persistent search for posted opportunities, even when nothing seems to be coming back in response to your inquiries. The law of averages will eventually provide some job opportunities where your resume reaches the top of the pile. 3. Persist in trying to locate any inside contacts with companies you can exploit for interest in the talents you bring to the table. You may find yourself able to land a position that is of less interest to other people looking for work, but perfectly suitable for you to ride out the stormy business environment. 4. Force yourself to conduct every interview with an attitude that you are a highly sought after commodity, with much to offer any organization. NEVER let your disappointment or desperation appear to an interviewer. High self confidence, positive attitude, and a can do spirit are the number one elements that can generate a good job offer, regardless of how much competition you are facing. Employers have no mercy for negative attitudes. Be prepared to give the performance of a lifetime in every interview. If employers are looking for the cream of the crop, you must be prepared to demonstrate they have found what they are looking for in speaking with you. 5. Increase your visibility to the hidden job market by posting your resume on highly visible job boards like Dice, Career Builder, Hot Jobs, and Monster. Focus your attention on the resources that produce the most results in having your resume found on these types of sites. Refresh your resume on your selected job sites regularly by making slight editing changes to your posted information. This will help you to keep your posted resume fresh, and standing at the top of the pile of people who share your qualifications. In times of employer markets, you may find more potential job inquires coming from employers and agencies finding you, rather than hunting through the available listings. 6. Many companies who have become frustrated by the overwhelming responses they receive from posting new positions turn to employment agencies, temporary services, and recruiters to carry out the task of locating qualified candidates to interview. When choosing agencies to represent you in your job search, do not stop with choosing a single firm to locate job opportunities for you. Choose reputable companies that are paid by the employer to find suitable candidates, and do not fall into the trap of paying a recruiter to locate a job for you. In finding employment, you are the commodity, and your services are what brings value to the bargaining table. Refresh your connection with your selected recruiting firms on a regular weekly or monthly basis. These companies are constantly receiving new leads, new applicants, and new information. It is just as easy to get lost in their shuffle as it is to be ignored by a company that has too many candidates to handle. Persistently communicate with firms that bring you the most job leads, and drop those who take your information and never contact you. Recruiting firms are motivated by the payment they receive for finding well qualified candidates; if they have no leads and no candidates, they will not make money. Try to find out what kinds of jobs are most frequently being filled by these resources, and consider shaping your skill sets to reflect the appropriate experience to fill these needs. Keep in mind that potential employers will be less willing to negotiate salary expectations due to the added fees they are paying to the recruiting firm for locating you as a qualified candidate. 7. Find as many resources as you can to showcase your experience and skill sets that will allow other companies to find you using key word searches or other internet based tools, sites, and resources to seek out candidates. Consider putting together your own web site to showcase your skills and talents. Recognizing an employers market versus a seekers market can be as simple as understanding where the most leads for jobs are coming from. Whenever you need to move on to your next opportunity, exploiting as many resources as possible is always the best approach. Though the search may be very difficult at times, reaching your goals will require skill, experience, and persistence in seeking out the best opportunity that is right for you. Planning, Creating & Maintaining Rock Gardens

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Tim Hallinan Often there are those areas of your garden that just aren’t suitable for lawn or have exposed ledge and rocks making it impossible to plant shrubs. These areas can easily be transformed into beautiful rock gardens by rearranging of some of the stones and bringing in a bit of new soil. If you don’t have enough stones on site add a few new ones. You can also start a rock garden from scratch on slopes which are too steep to mow. Since most plants which thrive in rock garden settings are sun loving, try to pick the sunniest spot possible for your garden. If, however, your rocky slope happens to be in the shade there are a number of interesting ferns and woodland perennials which will do just fine. A successful rock garden depends on the selection and arrangement of the stones and striking the right balance between the stones and plants. Choose stones with character, with interesting shapes and maybe some lichens or moss. When selecting new stone the most important thing to remember is the character of the existing stone back at the site. Try to use one type of stone throughout the garden. Keeping them consistent will result in a garden which seems to belong to the site. Also, stone native to your area will look natural, be inexpensive and be easy to obtain. Large rocks with irregular shapes look interesting in the rock garden, but keep in mind that you’ll need smaller rocks as well. Look for stones which have natural depressions in them, these can be filled with soil and planted with moss or succulents such sedum (a beautiful groundcover with yellow or pink flowers). When arranging the stones in the garden let the site’s natural conditions guide you. If, for example, the stones youre using have one side covered with moss make sure they are all placed with the moss facing the same direction. The same holds true if there are other distinct characteristics common to the all the stone. Arrange stones with cracks or fissures so they line up in the same direction. This will allow your garden to blend in with the surrounding landscape. If you are building a garden on a slope, fill in behind each stone as you work your way to the top and if possible, try to create relatively deep pockets of soil around larger stones. This will make suitable spots for a few small shrubs. Its also important to bury the stones about half way to make sure they’re secure and stable. After the rocks are in place let the soil settle around them for a few days then take a look at the arrangement from a distance to be sure you like the layout before adding plants. With the stone in place, it’s time to begin the process of choosing your plants. Low growing perennials such as creeping phlox, alyssum, thyme, thrift and speedwell work wonderfully. Where the soil is deep enough, evergreens such as blue carpet junipers and dwarf hinoki cypress will provide color to the garden throughout the winter. Since many of the plants best suited to rock gardens bloom only in the spring, consider incorporating a few annuals for color throughout the season. Though rock gardens can contain only those plants which grow naturally on rocky slopes, proper maintenance allows for a wide variety of plants. Though rock garden plants will generally do better in drier conditions and poorer soil than most plants, you should care for them as you would perennials. Fertilize in the spring along with your other gardens and make sure to water often, especially during the hot summer months, as the soil in a rock garden tends to be shallow and will quickly dry out. Just as with any perennial garden the soil should be occasionally cultivated and weeded. Never let weeds grow in the nooks and crannies, they will easily crowd out the smaller plants. If the weeds get too large in the more shallow pockets their root systems can spread throughout the entire area. If this happens pulling the weed will often remove the entire pocket of soil along with all the plants so try to avoid letting the weeds and grasses get out control. Most rock garden plants do well in poor soil, but the occasional addition of manure or compost will give them a boost. Also, just as in perennial gardens, maintenance should include cutting back in the fall, deadheading, clipping off dead stems and foliage, and dividing any plants that become root-bound. Because plants in a rock garden are more exposed than plants in a level bed, they may need more protection in winter so a heavy mulch should be applied late in the fall in cold climates. Cell Phone manufacturers understand this and have come up with clever ideas to make it Hip as well as functional. Have you seen the Do you hear me now advertisement? Are they really going to do that type of testing everywhere at different points in time. The signals are really dependent on how near you are to the tower. This along with how good is the equipment you use dictates voice quality. Not all phones are made alike. Manufacturers want to include a differentiation factor to the high end models hence they put in all their high profile research results in the high end model. This includes the higher quality of reception. For the folks who cannot yet upgrade to the high end equipment, Shout Out Listen Intensely is an everyday mantra. They have lower signal strength and they start hearing the person at ghost whispers. Make life a little Simple folks. One of the hot selling items in market today is the Cell Phone Boosters. These products advertise to solve the Shout Out Listen Intensely problem. These have a simple sticker that fits into the battery compartment and claim to improve the signal strength. They are able to amplify the signals and make the cell phones receive better signals than they would with the default antenna. I have seen many folks who agree or disagree to the products claim. The jury is still out there. Except for some small research findings that suggest they do help it is left to the cell phone user to judge whether they help or not. The doubters main question is if it was so simple a sticker with a printed circuit why the cell phone manufacturers are not including in all phones. The reason I am writing this article is raise doubt about the doubters logic. What if the manufacturers are adding this feature only to the high end Phone! Let me give an analogy adding a word saying an auction is featured is so simple in HTML but does EBAY offer this to every auction, they offer only to those who pay well. The benefits are higher if the claim does work. All you need is one phone call with a good client when closing a deal and the signal gets weaker. Panic, lost deal, a cell phone booster might have helped. In doing some research the boosters work well in analog phones than the digital one. The research is inconclusive for digital models. The problem is, voice quality is largely dependent on the perception of a human mind. You might have heard of the MOS Factor way of calculating quality, I have not seen any numbers so far. Use the comment section to discuss about this cell phone boosters. In order to know if it really works or not the best way to find is to add one to your cell phone and test out. While we are at it, if you are a seller the current trend in promotional giveaway is a free booster with any product. You may want to try this marketing gig as well. In conclusion the boosters benefits outweigh the doubt and cost to acquire one. May be they will help you when you wanted that Special call to finish without any signal problems.
